Juventus came to Jan Breydelstadion, Bruges with a 1-0 win in the bag from the first leg at Comunale, from a late goal scored by Roberto Bettega in the 86th minute. The return leg started terribly for Juventus conceeding already after 3 minutes to a goal from Fons Bastijns. There was to be no further goals in ordinary time and extra time was required to find a winner and European Cup finalist. After 111 minutes Claudio Gentile received a red card which was too much for Juventus who conceeded a late winner by René Vandereycken in the 117th minute. Club Brugge won 2-1 on aggregate and progressed to the final vs Liverpool FC.
Liverpool FC went on to lift the European Cup throphy 1977/78 for only the second time after beating Club Brugge 1-0 in the European Cup final from a goal scored by Scotland legend Kenny Dalglish.
Roberto Bettega is nothing less than an absolute Juventus legend and this shirt is an absolute must have! In the 1977/78 season he was Juventus topgoalscorer with 13 goals in all competitions. Juventus won the Serie A in 1977/78 five points ahead of Vicenza an Torino and only lost one Serie A game all season.
Roberto Bettega would score a total of 129 goals in 326 games for The Old Lady between 1969 – 1983. What a great achievement an player!
