Denmark pennant vs Brazil 18.06.1989 Morten Olsen farewell match

Get your hands on an extremely rare and precious Denmark pennant swapped with Brazil captain Ricardo by Morten Olsen at his own farewell match. Denmark beat Brazil 4-0 on a very hot sunny day and Morten Olsen scored the first goal on a penalty. Michael Laudrup notched two goals on the day and Lars Olsen the final one.

Morten Olsen is one of only ten players to have made over 100 appearances with 102 games for Denmark. He made his debut back in September 1970 against Norway. He went on to captain Denmark at three championships: the 1986 World Cup, and the 1984 and 1988 Euros. The Danish national team was hugely popular during the 80s – leading up to the triumph at the 1992 Euros.

On club level Morten Olsen spent most of his career in Belgium before playing his final years in Germany with FC Köln. We went on to have a successful managerial career with Brøndby, Köln, and Dutch giants Ajax before taking over the Danish national team.

Denmark was coming off a disappointing Euro 2000, but Olsen managed to revitalize the team and qualified Denmark to two World Cups and two European Championships. His tenure as coach for Denmark ended in 2015, and he remains the longest-serving coach of the Danish national team. During this time he coached players such as Jon Dahl Tomasson, Martin Laursen, and Martin Jørgensen.

In short, Morten Olsen is a legend when it comes to the Danish national team. His contributions on and off the pitch have been hugely important, when it comes to maintaining Denmark’s position among the top teams in Europe.
