Matchworn Bebeto #11 Flamengo Campeonato Brasileiro 1987-89
A unique Bebeto #11 Flamengo shirt from Campeonato Brasiliero 1987-89. This shirt is from the early career of World Cup winner Bebeto. The Brazilian played 80 games for Flamengo from 1983-89 and scored 34 goals. He famously won the World Cup with Brazil in 1994.
He won the Brazilian league with Flamengo in 1983, when they beat Santos by 4-2 on aggregate. Aside from Bebeto this Flamengo team also included the legendary Zico.
In 1987 Flamengo won Copa União, which was competition organized by Clube dos 13 – the most popular Brazilian clubs – who sought to make more money through sponsorships than they did through Campeonato Brasileiro. The four best teams from the two competitions were supposed to face off in playoffs to decide a national champion, but Flamengo and Internacional from Copa União refused to compete.
Bebeto played 80 games during his first spell at Flamengo and managed to score an impressive 34 goals. In 1988 he made the controversial move to one of Flamengo’s major rivals – Vasco da Gama for whom he played for four years before setting his sights on Europe.
His most memorable spell in Europa was no doubt his time at Deportivo La Coruña. He made 131 league appearances for Deportivo scoring 86 goals. During his time there he won Copa del Rey in 1994/95.
In 1996 Bebeto would return to Flamengo before going on represent teams such as Sevilla, Botafogo, Kashima Antlers, and Al-Ittihad.
