Hasselbaink joined Chelsea from Atlético Madrid having previously played for clubs such as Leeds and Boavista as well. He was with Atlético Madrid for one year, before being snatched up by Chelsea. During that season he scored an impressive 24 goals in 34 matches for the La Liga side. Atlético would go on to have other prolific strikers such as Fernando Torres, Diego Forlán, Sergio Agüero, Antoine Griezmann, David Villa, and many more.
He became an instant success at Stamford Bridge with 23 goals in 35 matches in his first Premier League season. This earned him his second Premier League Golden Boot (the previous was won with Leeds during the 1998/99 season).
