AC Milan won 1-0 in the derby game played at San Siro from a goal by Marco van Basten in the 74th minute. Nicola Berti played 229 games and scored 29 goals from 1988-1998.

Nicola Berta started his career in 1982 with his local club Parma. Three years later he moved to Fiorentina, where he would stay for another three years before making the move to Inter.

He got off to a great start in Milan. During his first season, Inter won the Serie A by more than 10 points down to Napoli in 2nd place. Berti played a significant part making 32 Serie A appearances and scoring seven times. He was part of a highly successful Inter team that also included players such as Andreas Brehme, Aldo Serena, and Ramón Díaz.

He would stay with Inter for nine seasons making a total of 312 appearances and scoring 41 goals. Aside from a championship, Berti also won two UEFA Cups and a Supercoppa Italiana.

He left Inter in January 1998 to join Tottenham on a free transfer. He made 21 appearances for Spurs scoring thrice. Berti then joined Spanish side Alavés before ending his career in Australia with Northern Spirit.

Nicola Berti was an important player for the Italian national team. He is a medallist at two World Cups (bronze in 1990 home in Italy and silver in 1994 in the U.S.)
