Matchworn Giuseppe Tomasini Cagliari Serie A 1970/71 Scudetto

This is not a shirt you see everyday! An extremely rare matchworn Giuseppe Tomasini Unione Sportiva Cagliari 1970/71 shirt! This incredible item comes from the season after Unione Sportiva Caglari’s only ever Scudetto Championship and features the Serie A Scudetto badge on the left chest. Cagliari very famously won the Scudetto in 1969/70 Serie A season beating Internazionale, Juventus and AC Milan to the title winning 17 from 30 Serie A games!

In 1970’s Gigi Riva led the Sardinian side Unione Sportiva Cagliari to win their only ever Serie A title. Riva arrived at Cagliari in 1964 and galvanised a team that had spent most of the previous years in Serie B. He was known as a magnet for signing good players from ‘fashionable clubs’ to head to Sardinia to play football. Examples were Fiorentina goalkeeper Enrico Albertosi and Inter midfielder Angelo Domenghini. These players were very important in clinching the Serie A title and also in the coming years. No less than 6!Cagliari players were later called up to the Italian 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico squad where Italy lost the final to Pele and Brazil.
