Verza came to AC Milan during a low point in the club’s history. Back in 1979 they were relegated for first time ever due to their involvement in a match-fixing scandal. They bounced straight back, but where also relegated in 1981/82.
Thus, Verza was among the players tasked with restoring AC Milan to their rightful place. Verza contributed towards that goal with his 10 goals in 31 Serie B matches. He was especially flying during March, when he scored six goals in four matches – including a hattrick against Varese.
Milan would end up gaining promoting by winning the Serie B convincingly by 8 points down to Lazio. They have not been relegated since then.
